Merlin

Belonging to the falcon bird family, the merlin is the UK's smallest bird of prey. While you'll likely spot these stunning creatures in many open country areas, they're often found closer to coastal areas.

IDENTIFYING CHARACTERISTICS

Compact in shape, merlin's have long, square-cut pointed tails and broad wings — shorter than other falcon species. Spot it fly with its wings held tightly close to the body, with rapid beats and occasional glides.
